Mayweather vs. Cotto Fight: Next stop Pacquiao?

– Mayweather vs. Cotto

As much respect as I have for Cotto, I think Mayweather is on another level. I see this fight going in a similar manner to Mayweather’s fight with Ricky Hatton: competitive early on, and Cotto will have his moments, but Mayweather will use his speed and faster hands to slowly break Cotto down before stopping him in about the 10th round. I think cuts could also be a problem for Cotto. Mayweather has never really been hit hard throughout his entire career. He has used his speed and quickness to dodge punch after punch, and that is why he is so great still to this day. At age 35, Mayweather is as good as he was when he started and that doesn’t help Cotto’s case. Cotto has been a strong fighter and has had great matches before getting in the ring with Mayweather. Cotto’s last 3 matches have all been won by knockout and his last lost was against Manny Pacquiao.

Which leads me to my next point, if Mayweather loses or wins this fight will he eventually fight Pacquiao? Some reports say that they may fight in November, but Mayweather disagrees, “No, I don’t think it’s going to happen,” Mayweather said of a Pacquiao fight. “It’s because of [Pacquiao promoter] Bob Arum. It’s not my fault.” Both trainers of these two prized fighters disagree with what Mayweather said. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, and Roger Mayweather, who serves as Floyd’s trainer, have been speculating that the two will finally collide in November. “There’s nowhere else for them to go,” Roach has said.

So we will see if Floyd “Money” Mayweather really wants to fight Pacquiao, but he has more important things to worry about, Miguel Cotto. The fight will be broadcasted tonight (9 ET, HBO PPV, $59.95) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. I hope to hear about  a great fight and am excited to see Mayweather keep his undefeated streak alive, or see Cotto come up with the big upset.
