Middlebrooks May Be Red Sox New Guy

Will Middlebrooks seems to be the next big thing in the Boston Red Sox organization. The 6-foot-4-inch, 225-pound righthanded hitter is Boston’s third baseman of the future. He has been batting .333 with nine home runs at Triple A this season and made his debut with the Red Sox at Fenway Park last night. In his debut he went 2 for 3, in front of his parents and a big Fenway crowd. Things are looking up for Middlebrooks and the Sox and the fans are aware of it. Kevin Youkilis, the current Red Sox 3B, has been placed on the 15 day DL with a lower back strain. And it couldn’t have come at a better time. Youkilis has been on a steady decline since he made his debut in 2004. He has played less games these past 3 years then any of his first three. He is constantly injured and just isn’t the hitter he once was. And that’s where Middlebrooks steps in. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a Youk hater, I have loved him since he debuted, but it may be time for the Sox to give Middlebrooks his spot. “He’s a big part of our future and for now will fill in for Kevin for a little while’’ Bobby Valentine said. Middlebrooks brings youth to a team that is steadily aging, and needs some young bats in the lineup. And as the struggles continue for the Sox, I think Valentine will need to start inserting Middlebrooks into the lineup. Middlebrooks Prospect Page
